The Alderley Edge Project
Luxury living space and bathroom fit-out contract
Alderley Edge
Sept 2021
Luxury living space and bathroom fit-out contract.
2 x luxury bathrooms and a downstairs WC
“Entrusting us with such an intimate and specific vision requires a commitment from the client that I have the utmost respect for. Adding to this vision through our own creativity, knowledge, and experience allowed us to really elevate the design in this space. The client paid us the greatest compliment possible following completion by commissioning us to carry out more work for their home with three more bathrooms, a kitchen, and an outdoor living space to approach next.”
– Luke Ellis,
Managing Director at Ellis Contractors
The Brief
Creating a living space informed by some of the most incredible luxury hotels in the world was a brief that required meticulous levels of detail and the highest standards of finish possible. Our client had spent a lot of time in California and was energised to bring elements of that influence into his new home. It had to involve the most distinguished contemporary styles and design throughout.
The bathrooms had a responsibility to be the focus of this grand transformation for the house. It was an ambitious undertaking that would reframe how far design for modern living can go within an existing space.
Dark, modern, and masculine were the high-level reference points. Every space had to align with this approach.
A frame for a jacuzzi on a subtly lit stepped riser would create an extravagant conversation piece within the bedroom, supported by an opulent en suite with separate access and an additional WC on the lower floor.
This needed to be bold. It needed to be brave. It had to stand out.
The Project
Meeting with the client formed the basis of our shared understanding of the project. It was our responsibility to interrogate his requirements and form a complete idea of his tastes.
During the design stage, we discussed which styles to pursue and the colour schemes that would be best placed to support and augment it. From this vantage point, we then had to decide what features to incorporate in the living spaces and understand the best use of materials and textures to bring everything together.
These phases afforded us the confidence to bring all of this to life in a detailed visual that we could share with the client for feedback. It was essential that everybody involved moved past traditional thinking to create a brand-new idea of what this home could really be.
Following sign off from these detailed visuals, we focused on the finishes, using premium products, services, and materials from the very finest – and trusted – partners and suppliers.
Challenges
There will always be considerable challenges on projects with the level of ambition that this transformation has.
On this project, two that stood out for attention and required specific levels of experience and dedication to overcome.
The steps on the jacuzzi required the highest levels of craftsmanship and methodical application to ensure they were light washed correctly. Making sure there was an absence of a visible line was the only possible result that would satisfy our team.
Plastering in LED track lights also proved to be an initial obstacle that required extra planning, work, and application to fix. Bespoke tracks were crafted to ensure the diameter followed from the wall to the ceiling for a flawless and stand out finish.
It’s often the invisible details such as these that require extra care to carry the theme successfully.
The results
We delivered this incredible project in just eight weeks.
There is no denying that the results are an elemental triumph of sophisticated style that make this home a bold statement of the highest quality. Our client’s aspirations were met with fierce dedication, premium craftsmanship, and world-leading finishes, from design all the way to delivery.
Downstairs WC
Our commitment to using the finest products available involved working with Artelinia, Gessi and Roccia on this project.
This can be seen on the breathtaking statement piece of the Gessi teardrop tap and Artelinia stone basin, working in harmony as the foundation for this space.
The bespoke circular mirror benefits from additional LED lighting, taking hold of the ambience.
Large format Roccia tiles in black marble deliver dark masculine undertones. The commissioned and custom-made illuminated canvas becomes a focal point, supported by a cluster of specially created tubular lighting in the corner.
Upstairs Bathroom in Bedroom
The steps leading up to the jacuzzi must be perfectly symmetrical to work aesthetically within the space. Centralising them in the room also required thought on how to align design with function in the best way.
The LED track lighting creates a feeling of consistency. It connects the spaces, running from the bedroom, into the bathroom and through to the walk-in wardrobe.
Upstairs En-Suite
The Artelenia basins were again employed with Gessi taps to create a uniform essence of quality and design.
Our client already had existing backlit Onyx panels in other areas of the home. As we were keen to echo existing design choices, we introduced these impressive features within the shower.
The wet room shower with a ceiling fitted head, and wall-mounted toilet, allows the fixtures and functions of this space to submit to our desired aesthetic plan. Together with the client we could ensure that this mix of contemporary and bold choices would be the primary focus of attention.
